When it comes to Christmas cards we’ve seen many, over the years, with a football theme and we have to admit to having one particular favourite.
It’s shown here and, a few years ago, was used by one of football’s governing bodies on the Christmas card they sent to all clubs; wouldn’t happen nowadays, as they would send an electronic greetings card!
Anyway, this particular card carries a photo taken at Highbury, the then home of Arsenal, on 16th January 1926. Arsenal’s captain, Charles Buchan, is on the right and he and his Manchester United counterpart Frank Barson appear to have lost the coin used for the toss up in the snow!
At least the referee can see the funny side of it and, before you ask no, we don’t know his name!
All of this brings us round to the Supporters Club Christmas cards available to purchase this Saturday when Rovers take on Bolton Wanderers.
We have been wanting to bring out a range of greetings card for a while now, so thought we would test the water with a small selection of cards to cover the festive period. We selected five different photos to be used on the cards and hope you will like the ones chosen
Just briefly, two of them depict snow scenes at Eastville, one from the 1950’s, the other from the 1960’s, another the mock fight that took place before many a Bristol derby, a snow scene featuring the Memorial Stadium’s East Stand, and our favourite from a recent painting by a local artist which you almost certainly haven’t seen before.
A pack of five cards will cost £6.00 and, remember, if you are a Supporters Club member, you qualify for a 10% discount so call in and see us in our shop in the car park on Saturday. Stocks are limited, so make sure you arrive early!
