How ironic that the last Development Squad (sponsored by the Supporters Club’s 50/50 Draw) League Cup game before Chris Hargreaves boys took on Cinderford Town in the G.F.A. Senior Cup last week was the previous Tuesday when Darrell’s future was being discussed. That match took place at Lodge Road against a young Walsall team that was managed by D.C.’s predecessor John Ward, the man who brough Darrell to the club. Walsall were quick and competitive but Chris had a few first team players at his disposal and they turned in a fine display to win 4-2. No doubt you can read a report on the game elsewhere in the ‘Pirate’.
It was then my pleasure on the following Thursday to present Chris at the Supporters Club’s A.G.M. forum with our latest contribution of a new video camera and ancillary equipment for his use in filming the squad’s matches and training. Also that evening we drew out the winners of the three sponsored shirts which the Supporters Club paid for last season – Kyle Bennett, Tony Craig and Bernard Mensah. We may repeat this first-ever sponsorship in the new year depending upon the take-up of others by Rovers’ commercial sponsors.
