We are indebted to Alex Veale for taking the time to write to us and let us know of the passing of his Uncle, Richard Veale. In his email to us Alex says, “ I wish to inform you of the passing of my uncle Richard who along with my other late uncle John, were longtime season ticket holders of Bristol Rovers Football Club. He passed away in Southmead hospital late on Sunday morning, the 24th. of January. Along with my other late uncle, they had been season ticket holders from when the club were playing at Eastville Stadium. I started following the club in the 1990’s, when I went with him and my other uncle to Twerton Park, Richard was an extremely vociferous supporter, and always made his views known to the referee and the team !!!!!.

He also saw Bristol Rovers play when they were at the old and new Wembley stadiums. When the club returned to Bristol, he followed them there, unfortunately within about a couple of years, his eyesight started to deteriorate (eventually becoming blind). My other uncle would help him walk to the ground, when he could no longer attend matches, he would always listen to matches on the radio at home. His health began to dramatically deteriorate about a couple of years ago. When my wife and I would visit him and my aunt, he would always ask me about the team !!!!, and took a very keen interest from afar. Richard is survived by his wife and son”.

Everyone at Bristol Rovers Supporters Club sends their condolences and best wishes, Alex.
