JOHN KAYES

Like so many Bristol Rovers supporters we were all saddened to learn of the passing of John Kayes, a huge supporter of our club and someone known to almost every fan, young and old alike who supports Bristol Rovers.

John was no ordinary fan, though, as he always seemed to be raising funds for various Football Club plans and/or projects. Over the years he came up with many ideas for Rovers related merchandise and we suspect there are very few fans who don’t have a Rovers badge amongst their club souvenirs!

In the early days of our tenure at Twerton Park, he produced a Fanzine, and of course he arranged a twinning with Spanish side Sabadell, and, of course, we can’t forget the annual Tote End reunions.

He organised the yellow ribbons for Nick Anderton, the green ones for Ian Alexander  sponsored walks for the Community Trust and set up the Golden Goal fundraiser which he used to pay for the Halloween and Christmas parties for our younger supporters and he was a huge supporter of Operation Community Hamper.

There are so many more projects he was involved in, of course, too many to mention here. His fundraising remains legendary and only this summer he assisted the club with the funding of benches in the newly refurbished Fanzone.

A great friend of Bristol Rovers Supporters Club, John will be missed by so many Gasheads.

We are sure that every one of you will have your own memories of John and that you are all as saddened as we are to know that a true Bristol Rovers supporter has passed.

We send our heartfelt condolences to John’s family and friends at this very sad time.
