Tomorrow nights Carabao Cup tie will be our 35th meeting with Cambridge United. To date Rovers have won 19 games and Cambridge have won 7 with 8 games being drawn.
The two clubs didn’t meet at all until December 1971 when Rovers won an FA Cup second round tie at Eastville Stadium by three goals to nil. If you are looking for omens for tomorrow night Cambridge have only triumphed twice in Bristol, one of which was a 1-0 win in Rovers return to Eastville after their exile at Ashton Gate following the Eastville fire.
Our last meeting was in March 2016 when two Billy Bodin goals helped a promotion chasing Rovers to a 3-0 win in front of a bank holiday crowd of 10,262.
Our darkest hour with Cambridge came in February 1992 when we were thrashed 6-1.
This is our first meeting in this competition.
