Rovers and Peterborough head to head

Apart from a couple of FA Cup ties in 1938 and 1952 Rovers and Peterborough didn’t actually meet until September 1962. Since then there hasn’t been much to choose between the teams with Rovers leading by 14 wins to Peterborough’s 13 with 11 matches being drawn.

The most dramatic game between the two sides occurred in September 2008 in a game televised live on Sky. Despite goals from Steve Elliott, Jeff Hughes, Rickie Lambert and a Shane Blackett own goal Rovers contrived to lose the game 5-4 with Craig Mackail-Smith netting a hat trick for the Posh.

Last season Peterborough did the double over Rovers. A last minute Tom Nichols goal (will he do it again tomorrow) gave them a 2-1 win at the Mem, and a 4-2 victory in Peterborough was the result that finally ended Rovers play-off hopes. Rory Gaffney scored two late consolation goals.
