You can now re-live Bristol Rovers’ exciting 2016-17 season, by ordering a compilation DVD which is available to pre-order from Pirate Leisure now. Entitled ‘Darrell Clarke’s Barmy Army’, it will feature highlights from every home match, and most away games, especially the five wins on the road. It is being edited now and the release date is scheduled for May 31st.
The over-riding feeling of all Gasheads should be one of pride after a truly outstanding effort by Darrell Clarke, his staff and this extremely committed group of players. This is the club’s best League season for 17 years, as a top ten finish in the third tier was achieved for the first time since Ian Holloway’s side just missed out on a playoff place in 1999-2000. Rovers entertained and excited the loyal Gasheads, by equalling the highest number of home wins in all the club’s previous third tier seasons at the Mem, with thirteen victories in Horfield.
Enjoy seeing three different hat-trick scorers in League games for the first time in any season since the 1930s, Ollie Clarke score the quickest ever Rovers goal at the Mem against Chesterfield and also witness Byron Moore net the club’s fastest ever goal in League football, after only 12 seconds at AFC Wimbledon.
Less than three years after travelling to venues such as Nuneaton, Alfreton and Telford, the Pirates were travelling with large numbers of fans to venues such as Bramall Lane, the Macron Stadium and the Ricoh Arena. Most impressively of all, over 4,000 Gasheads supported the team at Coventry City, a huge figure for a ‘normal’ League match in March, and a greater number than the average home attendance of three clubs in League One.
Rovers finished the season with an average attendance of 9,302, the best since the 1975-76 campaign, which was spent in the second tier, and included home matches with Chelsea, Sunderland and a very important derby with Bristol City. That figure represents real progress since the dark days of losing League status in 2014. No team has ever won consecutive promotions from the fifth tier to the second, but Darrell Clarke and his players took the fight down to the last two games, which is something to be applauded and enjoyed on this souvenir DVD, which includes exclusive interviews with the manager.
The DVD will be available from Pirate Leisure and Bristol Rovers Supporters Club and can be pre-ordered now for £16.95 (plus p+p as applicable). For more information please call Dave Rogers at Screen Soccer on 01454 321614 or email sales@1st-take.com
