We are pleased to announce that the Supporters Club’s Committee has unanimously agreed to increase our funding of the two Bristol Rovers Womens teams, colloqually known as the ‘Gas Girls’, for the coming season, whenever that might be!

Last year we provided £5,000 for both teams to get started and there was great enthusiasm amongst local girls who wanted to be part of the Rovers ‘family’ and to wear the famous quartered shirts, so much so that the Community Department were overwhelmed with applications to train with them at Lockleaze. This enthusiasm was fully justified when the last season got underway and both ladies teams swept to the top of their respective league tables only for them to be cruelly denied the championships that both of them so richly deserved at the end of their opening campaigns. We felt that the brilliant starts made by the girls should be further encouraged whenever amateur football gets underway again after the Coronavirus lockdown is eased sufficiently so we have agreed with the management to increase our funding for the next season to £8,000 in the hope that their success is finally rewarded with the silverware that is surely due to them.

Matthew Mavis Davies of Bristol Rovers Womens’ FC says, “Everyone at Bristol Rovers Women’s is thrilled to continue our partnership with the Bristol Rovers Supporters Club. Their support since our re-launch last year has given us the opportunity to grow and to offer more opportunities for women and girls to play football under the banner off the famous blue and white quarters. For that, we are incredibly greatful and I’m really looking forward to what the future holds for the ‘Gas Girls’ and our partnership with the Supporters Club”

This means that the Supporters Club will continue sponsoring not only the Women’s teams but also Rovers Youth Academy and Development squads as well as we have for many seasons now. We can only do this of course if you good people continue to purchase our 50/50 draw tickets on first-team matchdays so we hope that we can all gather again before too long to support Rovers at the Memorial Stadium. When we do then please remember the Supporters Club’s brilliant volunteers who turn out in all winds and weathers to make the draw such a success. It could not happen without them and you great fans!
