We were delighted to be given the opportunity to present Marcus Stewart with his cap during the half time interval in the game between Bristol Rovers and Exeter City on 29th December 2022.
After making a goalscoring debut for Rovers, against Ipswich Town, in 1991, Marcus ended his playing career by playing for Exeter against Rovers, at the Memorial Stadium in 2011. Between playing for his first and last clubs he turned out for Huddersfield Town, Ipswich Town (for whom he played in European football), Sunderland, Bristol City, Preston North End and Yeovil Town. Along the way he appeared in 783 games in all competitions, scoring 254 goals. Following a spell coaching at Exeter Marcus returned to Rovers as Development Coach and was then assistant manager. Marcus was the 563rd player to represent the club in the Football League and that number is embroidered on the back of his cap and the presentation, by Supporters Club Director Helen Wigmore, was watched from one of the Executive Boxes by some of his family and friends. His cap has been sponsored by Rovers’ supporters and the money raised will be donated to the Darby Rimmer Foundation following his recent diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease.
Thanks to stadium announcer Lance Cook for introducing, and interviewing, Marcus.
