THE GAME

The four changes made by manager Matt Taylor to his starting XI seemed to do the trick as Rovers returned to winning ways after four successive defeats thanks to goals from Scott Sinclair, Jamie Lindsay and James Wilson.

The changes saw Bryan Bilongo, Promise Omochere, Kamil Conteh and Jack Hunt start the match with Grant Ward, Lino Sousa, Gaitlin O’Donkor and Luke Thomas making way.

The first half saw a much improved performance from Rovers and they took the lead on the half hour mark with a superb strike from skipper Sinclair. Gaining possession on the edge of the area, he curled a superb left foot shot into the top corner of the net which gave goalkeeper

Will Mannion no chance of saving.

The visitors might have equalised just before the break, but Lloyd Jones headed over when well placed. The second half saw Rovers continue to take the game to Charlton and they doubled their lead with 58 minutes on the clock when Jamie Lindsay was played in by Omochere and curled a fine shot into the top corner.

Goal number three arrived ten minutes later when Wilson met a flick on from Omochere at the back post and powered a header past Mannion.

With three points seemingly in the bag, Rovers appeared to take their foot off the pedal and allowed Charlton back into the game and eleven minutes from time Alex Mitchell pulled a goal back when he headed home from close range.

Three minutes into time added on Charlton scored again when Matty Godden netted following a cross from Chuks Aneke. Thankfully, Charlton ran out of time before they could strike again!

THEY SAID WHAT?

‘I’m delighted with the perfornace, though not from start to finish because we probably finished in a way which made it more nervy and anxious that it needed to be. However, it was a positive night and so many good things happened on the football pitch, including the three goals.’ (Rovers manager Matt Taylor)

Third goal celebrations

‘After Saturday’s game we were in on Sunday and Monday and had a few meetings. I think you could see tonight that we were on the front foot a lot more and were a lot more positive. As for my goal Promise Omochere saw me on the edge of the box and played a good pass. The first thing I thought was touch and shoot. It was a nice feeling.’ (Rovers midfielder Jamie Lindsay)

‘I’ll take full responsibility for the result. I got the team wrong tactically. I picked a team that didn’t perform, but it was me that picked it so I take full responsibility and that’s what I told the fans after the game. For big parts of the game we were fine but there are times when teams are getting near our box and scoring; everyone seems to score from outside the box against us.’ (Charlton manager Nathan Jones)
