Severn Vale on the road

January 1, 2000

The Severn Vale supporters group started on a long trip to Norwich last season when, by luck, supporters from Thornbury sat opposite fans from Charfield.

Almost a year later, and a lot of hard work, we have a supporters group with just over thirty members.

Over the year we have played several friendly football matches against W-s-M Gas, and are planning other events throughout the new season. As a standard we have taken around 30 members to away games, Brighton and Leeds United last season and Peterborough and Exeter City so far this season. Severn Vale Gas is made up of families, couples, old and young alike, with several things in common… football, beer, football, friends, football, beer, oh and football with a good sing song for the Gas. We are also in close contact with the other branches for friendship, travel and social events.

A few of us have been Gasheads from Eastville to Twerton to our home back in Bristol at the Mem, so conversations are never dull as we re live the highs and lows of being a Bristol Rovers supporter. We like to have a good time when we go away, so if any of you want to join us don’t ever be surprised by what might happen; sorry Warren and Nathan, nice haircuts though. Don’t get me wrong, no harm is ever done and it’s all about supporting the Rovers and having fun.

This season started with a trip to Peterborough, where we sang our hearts out and did our very best to make Gary Johnson feel at home. Then there was Oxford… moving swiftly on came Yeovil and the first three points of the season, then on to Exeter where, thanks to the ref, we only came away with one point. Still, it was a great day out and we were all very pleased to join in with the Exeter fans, to pay our respects to Adam Stansfield and to dig deep into our pockets for his family. We were proud to be a Gashead that day and to show people what we really are all about.

We are planning many more away trips and social events over the season, as well as our monthly meet ups at the Railway Tavern at Charfield. You will find us there on the last Thursday of every month from around eight. It is a great pub and the landlord is very Rovers friendly. Please come and join us if you live locally and want to find out more regarding events and away travel. We have our own batch of membership cards, so you can join on the night if you are not already a member of the Supporters Club.
