Gas Girls Take On Black Cats
October 1, 2005
Tomorrow sees visitors Sunderland take on the Bristol Academy Ladies team at Cossham Street.
With no match last week after it was postponed due to international call ups, boss Gary Green has made sure the girls have their focus firmly on tomorrow’s match. I spoke with him at the open evening at Filton Academy on Thursday night. He said “The girls have missed not having the game against Charlton last weekend but we’ve trained hard and we’re give it all we’ve got to take the points this weekend.”
So far this season the girls form has been a little unpredictable at times, though they have bossed some games, at times the winner just wont come and they have been mugged a couple of times in games they looked most likely to win. One memorable example was the game against Birmingham at Cossham Street a few weeks ago. [image2]
Bristol Academy pretty much did everything but score the second goal they looked like they needed, but with only a couple of minutes to go to full time, the girls looked set for their first win of the season. Then the Gas keeper Siobhan Chamberlain had the ball kicked out of her hands by the Birmingham striker with the referee and his assistant both missing the incident and allowing the goal to stand. Lets hope they get better luck, or more competent refereeing this weekend.
Having already lost up in the North East this season, the girls are determined to do better in the return fixture, so if you aren’t having your Rovers fix this weekend in Carlisle why not go along to Cossham Street and give them your support? Kick off is at 2.00pm and admission is the usual £3 for adults and £1 for kids and 65+.
