Green Un 1st May 2006

[image1] Last Thursday evening saw the BRSC Weston super Mare branch hosting the BRSC on the road evening at their local, the Windsor Castle pub.
With special guests including Lennie Lawrence and Kevin Spencer present, the turnout was very good, with Gasheads keen to hear the latest news from the horse’s mouth as it were. Lennie was happy to take questions on the predictable subjects and answered them to the satisfaction of those present. As before at a previous evening held by the Supporters Club, some old Rovers footage was shown to the delight of a near capacity audience. Thanks go to the Windsor Castle pub for hosting us, along with the committee of the WSM Gas for making the arrangements and our guests for giving their time on the night.
A major announcement this week for the Supporters Club was the news that treasurer Jane Browne is to step down from her role as Supporters Club Operations Manager when she reaches her 60th birthday in July. She has been combining these duties with her role as treasurer ever since Steve Burns resigned from the Supporters Club in April 2004.
Jane will continue in her role as treasurer and will carry on with the day-to-day accountancy needed to keep the Supporters Club ticking over. Reflecting on her decision Jane had this to say:
“I had hoped that I would be able to hand over the managerial reigns to someone in a purpose built Bristol Rovers Supporters Club shop at the stadium, before I reached the point at which I would start to wind down. Unfortunately that doesn’t look as though that can happen in the immediate future. When I took over, I thought that it would be for a relatively short period of time but its gone on a little longer than expected and I feel now is the time for me to step away. I would like to thank the paid staff for all the support they have given me over the last two years.”
The Supporters Club Executive committee would like to thank Jane for her efforts over the past two years, in what has been a very demanding role and she has had to learn much in a comparatively short space of time. She has done it whilst working part-time with the added pressure of being a Football Club director until just before Christmas, taking the retail operation through a period of considerable change. An announcement will follow regarding how Jane will be replaced in the next few weeks.
Finally, make 2nd May a date for your diary next week. Yes, it’s a special date for Gasheads, but this year it is the day the Rovers fans team are playing Bath City fans for charity at Twerton Park. It’s free admission, though donations are gratefully accepted, and Keith Valle will once again be taking the mike for the evening, a real trip down memory lane. With the Bristol Fans Derby hoping to get near a massive £9000 raised this year after this game, you can play your part by going along and supporting the event and joining in the fun. Memories of 10 years at Twerton will go on after the match in the bar, along with a few special guests, so don’t miss out!
Remember, this Sunday is the BRSC player of the season evening at the Mem in the Bristol Room. Tickets are £5 to include a basket supper, but are limited so order yours while we still have some left!
Finally, we had another winner on our half time 50/50 draw at the Boston match last week. Winning ticket number 04602 won £828, well worth the £1 stake.
