Ellington Returns To The Mem
July 17, 2006
Tuesday evening sees former Premiership team West Brom heading to the Mem for a pre season friendly. Bryan Robson’s team, hopefully featuring ex Rovers legend Nathan Ellington, will be welcome visitors for Gasheads, who so far have only seen their team take on local non league sides.
Weston Super Mare were last week’s opposition, yielding to a 4-2 scoreline to Rovers at their tidy new stadium. Two goals and a promising cameo from Igoe, along with an industrious performance from Haldane, and goals from Agogo and a glancing header from fans favourite Disley sealed the win and a comfortable performance.
Saturday saw Rovers back at Bath and we saw old Gas favourites Hogg and McKeever turning out for the home side. Rovers were ahead within two minutes with a quick goal from Igoe who sublimely chipped everyone to net his third goal of pre season. On sixteen minutes, Steve Elliott rose high at the back from a Sandell corner to make it two, and Bath never looked like getting back into the game. On a scalding hot day, we were grateful for the cover of the popular terrace and it was only when venturing out for a cup of tea did we really have any appreciation of just how hot it really was.
Tuesday night sees our first Young Pirates mascot for the season.
Eleven year old Aaron Hooper lives in Downend and attends Stanbridge School. He enjoys being in the scouts and is learning to play the guitar and the harmonica, but his main hobby is football, both playing and watching, and his favourite player is Lewis Haldane.
We hope that Aaron enjoys being our mascot this evening.
