Britannia Back Young Pirates
September 26, 2006
This season has seen a bright new look for the Young Pirates.
After the doldrums of having their home moved last season when the car park was resurfaced, they found themselves stuck at the bottom of the stadium site opposite the west stand turnstiles. This had a massive effect on their membership, and even on current memberd who just didn’t know where to look for them. Added to that was the fact they were sharing the portakabin with the press. It was clearly an unnacceptable situation and BRSC got involved to see if they could help.
With previous fans Director Jane Browne and then Director Kim Stuckey putting both their efforts into this situation along with additional help from Associate Director David Brain, it was not going to be long before it was sorted out. The BRSC committee agreed to fund a new portakabin for the Young Pirates if a sponsor could not be found. Nobody needed to worry though, as Britannia Building Society stepped up to sponsor the whole deal, paying for a new home, which has been sited back in the original place it used to be, in the main car park.
After a lot of hard work from the Young Pirates volunteers, the interior has been decorated and looks grand, a fitting home for our next generation of fans. Its a place parents can be happy to leave their kids now on a match day and best of all is exclusively for the use of the Young Pirates only!
The Young Pirates is the organisation that offers youngsters supporting Rovers their first club to join. They offer all sorts of activities like meet the players days, Christmas Parties and run match day mascots too. On a match day they sell sweets and souvenirs and a friendly face. Drop in and take a look next time you are passing on a match day.
Both the Supporters Club and the Young Pirates would like to extend their thanks to Britannia Building Society for their generosity and for helping to make a real difference to the kids match days. Details of special rates for Rovers savers with Britannia Building Society can be found here. Please take a look and see if you will benefit from their services.
