Ron Craig – Jim Chappell’s tribute
December 1, 2009
[image1]We were saddened to learn last night that Rovers’ Director and ex-Chairman Ron Craig had passed away after a long illness. I, like several of my senior colleagues on the Executive Committee, have known Ron for many years and all my dealings with him on both an official and a personal basis have been a great pleasure. Ron was one of just a handful of dedicated men, notably including his great friends, the Dunfords, who had the vision and dedication to save Rovers when things looked so bleak at a run-down Eastville back in the mid-eighties. The decision to take the club away to play at Twerton Park, so controversial at the time, was to prove the catalyst eventually for us to return to our own wholly-owned home back in Bristol. Every current Rovers supporter today owes a debt of gratitude to Ron for his part in ensuring the survival of our great club. Rest in peace Ron!
Finally, on behalf of all the Committee and Supporters Club members, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to Ron’s dedicated wife Ann at this very sad time.
