LEYTON ORIENT 1. v. 2. BRISTOL ROVERS

Played on Saturday 21st March 2015

You can see the two Bristol Rovers goals at 2mins 14 seconds in this clip of Academy goals.

Two goals from Laurent Davis-Wilson helped our U-18 side overcome a previously unbeaten Leyton Orient side in this Merit League Two clash on Saturday. This win extended the BRFC Academy unbeaten run to 15 matches.

Laurent Davis-Wilson scored a quick-fire brace in the first half to bring the three points back to Bristol.

“The boys faced another long journey,” said Youth Team manager Alan Walsh, “and so our preparation was far from ideal.

“I think that showed in the opening five minutes when, had it not been for two outstanding saves by Cameron Clarke, we might have been two goals down.

Cameron Clarke made some excellent early saves to provide the platform for Rovers to go on and win the match.

“That proved to be something of a wake up call, because in the next five minutes we created two very good chances of our own.

“We improved as the game progressed and began to exert some pressure on the Leyton Orient goal and we opened the scoring with 20 minutes on the clock.

“A good passage of play, involving Tyler Little and Blake Davies, saw a chance created for Laurent Davis-Wilson and he produced an excellent finish, shooting across the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Mitch Palmer, now looking sharp after his lengthy spell out with injury.

“We doubled our lead ten minutes later when, following a similar build up to the opening goal, this time involving Tom Fry, Laurent produced a carbon copy finish to register his second goal of the game.”

“At that stage of the game, although Orient looked dangerous on the counter attack, we were comfortably in control of proceedings and looked as though we might score a third.

“However two minutes before half time, following a somewhat harsh foul given against Louis Ezwele, they pulled a goal back from Freddy Moncur who scored with his penalty.”

Louis Ezewele has only recently returned to the Bristol Rovers defence after a long spell out through injury.

That turned out to be the final goal of the game.

“Both sides struggled to cope with the windy conditions in the second half, which turned out to be quite a scrappy affair. Orient only looked dangerous from set pieces and corners, while we created very little. Nevertheless we held out to register another win and the lads deserve great credit for the way they played.”

With time running out Rovers nearly added a third through substitute Bradley Confrey before holding on for three points.

This victory ends a run of four consecutive wins for Leyton Orient and sees Bristol Rovers leapfrog the O’s at the top of Merit League Two.
