Easter @ Academy
April 14, 2015
The BRFC Academy Schoolboy programme has been busy over the Easter break with all age groups playing 2 games each during the holidays.
The first game was against South Wales Elite Development, run by Mike Fowler, and the second was against a Welsh league Academy side, Cambrian. All games were competitive and gave our boys a great opportunity to try and enforce our playing philosophy.
On Friday April 10th 2015, the Under 16 side played Irish touring side Donegal. This game gave Academy manager Jonny Henderson an opportunity to involve four players from the Under 15 squad who all performed extremely well against decent opposition. The only goal of the game came from Sam Hedges who tapped home after a neat build up down the left hand side.
The Under 16 team were home to Cheltenham Town on Saturday April 11th. They produced a polished performance with a well taken goal from Under 15 player Josh Brace and one from Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist. The Under 9 to Under 15 age group of players had fixtures against Plymouth Argyle.
Probably, the stand out performances came from the Under 12 players who produced an excellent footballing display on a bumpy surface. Ben Courtier rounded off a terrific passing move by slotting home this week’s goal of the week. Other goals came from Miguel Freckleton, Harvey Greenslade and Danny Constable (2). The Under 14 group performed well in line with the weeks training theme of defending in our own half.
Our Foundation Phase group, (Under 9 to Under 12) had the opportunity to parade around the pitch at half time during the first team’s fixture against Southport. This involved a lap of honour with their coaches and also a mini-training session for all players. It was an experience the boys are likely to remember fondly.
