Moving On

July 8, 2015

With the players well into pre season training and the teams for Salisbury and Sutton announced, it does feel that we are putting the hurt of non league football behind and moving on.

Not too much should be read into pre season results with a mix of players and formations to try but there is the chance to view the new players and those with us on a trial basis over the next few weeks.

First up is a trip into Wiltshire and Darrell and the players will be well received down there. Salisbury have done well to recover from their financial difficulties and it will be a pleasure to visit them.

I have a bit of a difficulty with this one because before the dates for pre season had been announced I had agreed to attend a community fund raising event for children and young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. A number are Rovers fans and so I will be taking along a few items from the club shop for the auction and raffle including two complimentary tickets for a League game next season.

Many thanks to Clare for helping with this token of our goodwill from our club to a very deserving cause.

Coming up we have a short trip into Gloucestershire and then go to Mangotsfield for a couple more local games on the spin. I am sure that supporters in the Vale and up on the Cotswolds will make good numbers at Cirencester next week. I will be there with my family so see you up there.

One game I am looking forward to is the visit of Arsenal’s development squad at the Mem and the chance to see rising Premier League stars. We should see some tasty football being played at this one.

Phil Kite has been an outstanding servant to our football club and well deserves his testimonial game. It will be good to see Tony Pulis back with us once again with his West Brom outfit.

Tony has many long standing friends in Bristol from his time with us as a young player; the game promises to be a special occasion so  please come along to the Mem for this one to show our appreciation to Phil.

I am also looking forward to the Northampton fixture and the early chance to win football matches back in The Football League; it’s all about winning football matches.

Enjoy your Summer holidays and in the meantime and in between time there are the pre season games and the Fun Day to get us back into to enjoy and to get us back into the swing.

Kind Regards

Ken Masters
