Bobby Jones R.I.P.

Bristol Rovers legend Robert Stanley Jones, known as Bobby Jones, has died.


Bobby was born in Bristol on 28 October 1938.

Bobby played for Bristol Rovers, Northampton Town and Swindon Town in the Football League.

Only eight men have ever played more League games for Rovers and only four have scored more goals.

Bobby played for Bristol Rovers for nearly 15 years. His playing record is that of a true legend.


His full football league playing record is:-

1956–1966. Bristol Rovers:- Appearances – 250. Goals – 64.

1966. Northampton Town:- Appearances – 17. Goals – 1.

1967.  Swindon Town:- Appearances – 11. Goals – 0.

1967–1973. Bristol Rovers:- Appearances – 171. Goals – 37.


He later managed, between 1982 and 1995, several local non-league sides.

This included Bath City, Forest Green Rovers, Mangotsfield United, and Yate Town.
