The EFL Trophy Final Group Stage Match “Lack Of Attendance Figures”

EFL_TROPHY_BLUE

The attendance figures below are those for the 16 clubs involved who have Category One Academy status.

The crowd figures show that this is a deeply unpopular EFL Trophy format and they tell a compelling story.

An ill-conceived structure for a competition that supporters of League One and Two clubs do not support.

TWO of the Total Attendances have not been reported to avoid embarrassment.

Wednesday 9th November 2016

Sunderland Select XI 2 v 1 Notts County.  Total Attendance of 633.

Reading Select XI 0 v 2 Yeovil Town. Total Attendance of 739.

Southampton Select XI 4 v 0 Crawley Town. Total Attendance of TOP SECRET.

It was not much more than a few hundred –  a record low – the official figure was not even announced.

Tuesday 8th November 2016

Everton Select XI 1 v 1 Blackpool. Total Attendance of UNDISCLOSED.

It was a record low crowd despite the match involving two geographically close sides.

Stoke Select XI 1 v 1 Bury. Total Attendance of 698.

Blackburn Rovers Select XI 2 v 2 Oldham Athletic. Total Attendance of 471.

How do you recognise a poorly considered and unsuccessful tournament structure?

Is record low attendances, massive financial losses and supporter disinterest the criteria?
