So much has happened since we last penned a Supporters Club column for The Pirate, in what turned out to be an exciting last-gasp victory over Fleetwood Town, and most of it has been good!
Christmas and the new year have come and gone, Graham Coughlan has been confirmed as Rovers’ full-time Manager with Chris Hargreaves as his Assistant, the team has been unbeaten, including three consecutive away wins, (when did that last happen?) and we are through to the last eight of the Chekatrade Trophy. Not a bad start to 2019 then! We even took a valuable point off mighty Accrington Stanley – the first such in no less than 24 on offer and, we might have even snatched a very late winner but for a great save by the home ‘keeper who palmed away the last kick of a match played in the most appalling weather last Saturday.
I said when ‘DC’ left that I did not expect any of our then rivals in the bottom four, Scunthorpe, Plymouth and Bradford to remain there until the end of the season and I still believe that so we have to drag teams like today’s old rivals Wycombe back down into the fray as we fight to retain our League 1 status. With the support you have given to Graham and the boys so far then we can do that so, please get behind the Rovers boys today and let’s continue what has been a very happy blue year so far!
Jim Chappell.
