Sky Sports broadcaster wins ballot
January 1, 2000
Sky Sports broadcaster Brian Seymour-Smith is the Bristol Rovers Supporters Club’s new representative on the football club board. Mr Seymour-Smith polled 246 votes in the ballot of members with Ron Cocks getting 79 and outgoing director David Brain 56.
Brian said: “May I thank all those members who supported me. I am honoured and privileged and, if ratified by the board in November, I will do all I can to repay your faith in me.
“I would like to pay tribute to David Brian and Ron Cox who also stood for the position. David has served as director for the past six years and no one should underestimate the time and commitment he gave. David also served brilliantly as chairman of the Share Scheme and I’m sure you will join me in thanking him for that service. David has invited me to take on this role and, subject to approval by the Supporters Club Executive, I would be delighted to endeavour to emulate his good work.
“At the same time, Ron Cox continues to serve the club with distinction helping out with matchday hospitality and other duties. Ron, David and I have become good friends during this election and I know that this friendship will continue as we work together to support the activities of both the Supporters Club and Bristol Rovers FC.
“My aim is to offer my vast business, communications and PR experience to both organisations. Already both clubs are served by a strong communications team. If I can add further experience and networking opportunities to those teams then, if invited, I shall try to do so.
To me it is vital that everyone connected with the club is fully informed about club activities, particularly with plans over the new stadium. With the help of Ken and the board, I shall do all I can to help bring these plans to fruition with you the supporter at the heart of any decision making.”
