Jim’s Jottings

(This is a section of the BRSC Chair’s comments from the Chesham United programme.)

If you were either here at the Memorial Stadium for the highly successful televised ‘beam-back’ or, if like me, you travelled all the way over to Abbey Stadium for last Friday week’s great win at Cambridge then you cannot have failed to be impressed by Rovers’ fighting spirit in coming back from the previous Saturday’s shocking crash against Newport in the so-called ‘Severn-side derby’.

That defeat came right out of the blue bearing in mind our string of wins on the road prior to meeting the ‘Exiles’ and we fell to a catalogue of errors, (inexplicable defensive ‘clangers’ really), that must have served as a ‘wake-up’ call to all concerned for there is no doubt that Rovers put things right at Cambridge. Despite falling behind to an unmarked header from the ever-dangerous Corr the home side had no answer to the ‘Pirates’ in full ‘plunder’ in the second half.

Beam back

Apart from the result that put us right back in the hunt for a play-off place in our first season back in the League I was mightily impressed that no less than six hundred or so ‘Gasheads’ made the long trip east when back at home an even greater number turned out here for the live screening in the club’s bars. The Supporters Club were happy to take the chance of part-funding the experimental screening and what a great success it turned out to be.

Of course the result, another record-equalling away win, makes it all the better but I’m sure the club will be looking to repeat the evening when the opportunity next arises. Thanks for your great support – home and away!
